So here's the first post to the radio documentary investigating whether Virtual Reality can become the new Eating Disorder therapy. Currently, NICE the National Institute of Health and Care excellence say that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the most used therapy for people with eating disorders, but many people find making that first point of contact hard so if VR has worked to help people with Dementia, PTSD etc. then why not become a therapy for people with eating disorders?

In the UK, 14-24 year olds are at highest risk of having an eating disorder and 1.6 million people are either diagnosed or undiagnosed with one. A VR study in Barcelona helped patients with anorexia nervosa to experience ownership of a healthy BMI which led into a reduction in body overestimation. Virtually Better seeks to find out just that and whether studies like this can lead to a mental health care change in the UK.
You've got to wait until January 11th to hear about when Virtual reality can be used in the UK and whether it can make a difference to peoples lives who have eating disorders. If Virtual reality can take you into another world, then hopefully 'Virtually Better' will do just that.
